Appointment system trial at Burrell Street sexual health centre

For 12 weeks, from 3 September 2018 to 23 November 2018, the Burrell Street, Sexual Reproductive Health Clinic will test a different operating system.

New one stop shop for eye patients

Guy’s and St Thomas’ has launched a new clinic for patients with scleritis, a severe inflammation of the sclera – the white part of the eyeball.

 

Over half of the people who develop scleritis have some other form of inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammation of the bowel.

Six resources, supporting your practice to share the child Health Check

The child Health Checks are rolling in, and accessible at cyphp.org/health-check. This Health Check is for all parents/carers of children aged 0-15 years with asthma, constipation, epilepsy, or eczema.

Paper switch off update and returned referrals

The Standard Contract for 2018/19 requires the full use of the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) for all consultant-led first outpatient appointments. From 1 October 2018, providers will only be paid for activity resulting from referrals made through e-RS.

Exclusions on e-RS

Referrals not sent by e-RS will be returned to the referring practice and will need to be made again via e-RS unless they are an exclusion. If you are emailing a referral that is deemed an exclusion, please highlight the reason clearly in the body of the email so it does not get returned.

Rejected referrals – take action!

As a general rule, if there is a UBRN (unique booking reference number) visible on a worklist this means it requires attention.

Incomplete referrals on e-RS

This means that the referral has had clinical information attached from within the GP integrated system, but no services have been shortlisted, i.e. the referral has stopped at this point. Referrals in this state have not historically been visible within e-RS but with a recent release of e-RS this now displays to GPs.

Searching for Guy’s and St Thomas’ services – out of area

When searching for services on e-RS, the list of services displayed is defaulted from the patient's postcode and will display up to 99 matching services. Therefore, if the patient is willing to travel to GSTT and you wish to refer us, our services may not display if the patient lives too far away from us.

The South East London Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) is pleased to announce referrals are now open to a pilot adult weight management service for patients with a GP in Southwark, Lambeth and Bromley with referrals for Bexley and Lewisham being accepted from October.

We are seeing an increasing number of letters being sent in with pathology specimens that are insufficiently addressed. When sending in letters for departments located at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and/or King’s College Hospital please ensure that a full departmental address is provided.

King's Health Partners Haematology GP Event 

GPs are invited to attend the King’s Health Partners Haematology GP Event being held on Thursday 13 September 2018 in the Fetal Medicine Institute at Windsor Walk

A buffet dinner will be available from 6.30pm – 7pm. Talks will start at 7pm until 9.15pm.

Evelina London Gait Analysis Course 2018
  • Date: 8 – 10 November 2018

Learning to walk and maintaining walking ability are important aspects of human function. Gait analysis is the study of human walking. Many universities, hospitals and private institutions have instrumentation to measure walking but there are few courses available to teach clinicians and researchers the developmental, neurological and muscular physiology and mechanics of walking to help them interpret their data.

 

Learning outcomes:

  • Relevant knowledge of the development of human walking across the lifespan
  • An understanding of key biomechanical and clinical measurement concepts
  • Technical analysis of gait and associated data
  • Ability to interpret data according to an opinion-evidence model

Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis 2018: current practice and beyond
  • Date: 9 – 10 November 2018
  • Venue: Robens Suite, Guy’s Hospital, London SE1 9RT

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has offered Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) since 1997 and is one of the most successful in Europe with more than 700 babies born free from genetic diseases following PGD for monegenic conditions or chromosome rearrangements.

Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis: Current practice and beyond includes talks from Clinical Genetics, Reproductive Medicine, Embryology and Genetics Laboratories to share our multidisciplinary experience, followed by interactive workshops on complex issues.

 

This course is for those considering establishing a PGD service and/or who wish to broaden their experience.
