In the past few months the Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) and Reproductive Medicine Clinic at Guy’s and St Thomas’ have introduced a referral form to speed up the referral process and ensure that patients can access our services without any delay.

The General Outpatient Service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ provide comprehensive care for women with a wide range of gynaecology issues. All clinics are within the McNair Centre at Guy’s Hospital.

The Colposcopy Unit

Our Colposcopy Unit at Guy's receives more than 2,000 referrals every year, which is the highest number of referrals out of all the London clinics.

Gynaecology Minor Procedure Clinic

This one-stop clinic undertakes predominantly outpatient hysteroscopy, a procedure that is normally diagnostic but it can be also operative. Patients have the choice of receiving the procedure without the need for general anaesthetic, as covered by the best practice tariff.

Menopause and early menopause clinics

Women experiencing problems at menopause can be overlooked and promoting a healthy menopause can avoid some chronic diseases later in life.  The gynaecology service offers two menopause clinics: one for women having problems with menopause and one for women with an early menopause (under the age of 45).

The Outpatients Programme was launched last June when we presented the changes we intended to make across all outpatient departments in the shorter term and how we could develop a longer term vision for how we deliver these changers in future.

New Children’s Assessment and Referral Service (CARS)

On 22 October Evelina London Children’s Hospital launched a new general paediatric referral support service – the Children’s Assessment and Referral Service (CARS). The service is delivered by a consultant general paediatrician from Monday to Friday between 11am to 7pm and will provide advice and triage to support GPs with the management of paediatric patients. .

Referring to the Older Person’s Assessment Unit (OPAU) at Guy’s Hospital

The OPAU offers a range of clinics including Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), Falls, Bone Health, Bowel and Bladder, Movement Disorders, Preoperative Surgical Assessment, Heart Failure, Dementia and Delirium, Rapid Assessment, and intravenous infusions (including blood).

Stroke 6-month reviews – information for GPs

As GPs, you may have received summaries of reviews that have been conducted since the 6 Month Review Service was commissioned earlier this year. At present this primarily refers to patients who received care in a hyper-acute and/or stroke unit, who were then taken over by the Early Supported Discharge Service.
