A good 2019 to everyone!

We would like to open the first LGBT+ Forum newsletter of 2019 by wishing you all a fantastic year. Following our Annual General Meeting in early January, we welcome back Jayne King and Eric Pirozzoli as our co-chairs and we thank Eilis McGrath and Panos Poimenidis for leading the forum in the past year.

2018 was a very exciting year for our group taking part in many national events. We confirmed a big presence at London Pride and Black Pride. Many others attended LGBT History Month celebrations, Equality and Diversity Week, National Nursing Week, Black History Month, and our ever popular film nights and Christmas party. We had four members meetings  and our Twitter account has now over 1K followers.

In the current forum structure there are many opportunities for you to get involved. For example by helping organise our social events or supporting the other forum events and projects (LGBT+ History month, Pride etc).

Let us know what you think by getting in touch by email or filling out our survey.

History month at St Thomas' 26 February- save the date!

On Tuesday 26th February from 11am to 2pm we will be holding an event in Central Hall to celebrate LGBT History month.

There will be stalls, entertainment and our traditional rainbow cake. Each year we have been holding LGBT history month events across the Trust as an opportunity to meet our colleagues and celebrate the diversity of our workforce.

Please come along and tell  all your colleagues and friends.

Meet the team

We'd love to hear your ideas so come and speak to us if you have any suggestions for the Forum. Contact us at lgbtforum@gstt.nhs.uk or join us at a Forum meeting.

NHS rainbow badges roll-out - we need your help!

The first roll-out of the NHS rainbow badges has been completed at the Evelina and 660 of its staff received a rainbow badge. The response has been very positive and we are now planning the roll-out to the wider Guy's and St Thomas' staff. To receive the badge staff will be asked to sign up to three pledges.

We ask the forum members to join a task and finish group to support the delivery of the badges. We will also need representatives per site or department to give out badges.

If you wish to help please email: lgbtForum@gstt.nhs.uk

Diverse BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) staff panels

Guy's and St Thomas' is taking a positive approach in improving our equality, diversity and inclusion by introducing diverse BAME panels for all senior post interviews. This approach has been implemented in other hospitals and has shown to have a positive impact on improving both the visibility of our ethnically diverse workforce as well as enhancing thought diversity amongst panel members and during the selection process.

For further information or to find out how to join the panel please email diversepanel@gstt.nhs.uk

Quality Care Commission inspection - get involved

This year, the CQC may ask to meet with the LGBT+ forum members as part of their upcoming inspection to Guy's and St Thomas'.
