What is the role of the network?

The LGBT+ staff network formed over 10 years ago as a volunteer network to ensure the needs of staff and patients of all sexualities and gender identities are met at the Trust. As well representing LGBT+ staff and patients at key Trust meetings and offering support and advice in the work place, we also organise regular events to provide a space for all staff, including allies, to socialise and meet others. Everyone is welcome to become a member and join our meetings to discuss key issues and initiatives to support our LGBT+ colleagues and patients.

 

Tell us more about the work you do

In recent years we have helped with the roll out of the NHS Rainbow Badges, as well as updating our trans and intersex guidance to provide information on how to best support trans and intersex colleagues and patients. Pride is a huge date in our calendar and last year at Pride in London, 75 members of the network marched under a giant inflatable NHS Rainbow Badge. We also organise regular meet ups, film nights, quizzes and fundraisers to raise money for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.

 

What’s the best thing about the network?

There’s so many great things about being a member of the network, but the sense of community and the opportunity to meet other LGBT colleagues is amazing. We pride ourselves on providing an open, non-judgemental and inclusive space to support our staff and patients, which we achieve with the support from our executive sponsor Chief People Officer Julie Screaton and the wider executive team, as well as Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity. We’ve got many events planned throughout the year and we’re always welcoming new members.
