Focus on Evelina London Children's Healthcare

A message from the Evelina London Medical Director

It’s been one year since our children’s community services in Lambeth and Southwark joined together with Evelina London Children’s Hospital to form Evelina London Children’s Healthcare.

This special edition of Connect aims to update you on the latest developments in our children’s services both in the community and in the hospital.

Since the integration we’ve employed more health visitors, worked with colleagues and stakeholders to launch the Children’s Assessment and Referral Service (CARS) and developed new workstreams for Down’s syndrome, to name but a few.

In February this year we launched our new Evelina London website. The primary audience is patients and parents but we also hope it will become a useful tool for health professionals. We are always open to feedback and we would like to know any thoughts you have on the website.

Community speech and language therapy service

Poor early communication skills can have a significant impact on children’s social, educational and health outcomes. The period from 8-24 months is one of the most important stages of language development because what takes place in a child’s early years can have a lasting effect on their health and well-being.

Improving health outcomes for Looked After children
Evelina London is undertaking new initiatives to improve health outcomes for Looked After Children (LAC), children and young people who are taken into the care of local authorities, often because of abuse or neglect. Kids Sleep Dr app launched
Around 20% of children have sleep problems which their parents find hard to deal with. With the exception of some of the more serious sleep disorders, many childhood sleep problems can be solved by parents once they have the confidence and knowledge to understand what is happening and how best to help.

Kids Sleep Dr  is a new sleep diary app which allows parents to understand their child’s sleep patterns, track their progress, and receive sleep tips personalised to their child.
