Community paediatric physiotherapy service
We provide a children’s community physiotherapy service for children and young people aged 0-19 years in Lambeth and Southwark. The service includes assessment, treatment and care co-ordination for children who have a physical disability or impairment, developmental difficulty, or walking and mobility difficulties.
The service accepts children and young people with the following concerns:
- Neurological, neuro-developmental or neuromuscular disorders, which affect their functional abilities
- Ongoing orthopaedic problems such as Brachial Plexus Lesions, Torticollis, Arthrogryposis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and talipes, if there is an impact on their motor development and function
- Abnormal gait patterns or abnormal variants of the lower limbs
- Co-ordination difficulties eg developmental co-ordination disorder/dyspraxia, if their gross motor function is affected.
The physiotherapy teams see children in a variety of settings across Lambeth and Southwark including clinics, schools, nurseries, or the child's home, depending on the individual needs and desired physiotherapy goals of the patient.
How to refer
Referrals should be sent to the team based in the same borough as their GP and can be made either using a child health referral form or in writing accompanied by a common assessment framework.
